Grid connection and usage with BESS

November 2025

To help BESS project developers in Germany navigate the complexity of connecting to the grid, we commissioned a customer-oriented journey with practical examples to energy consultancy E-Bridge. If you require assistance with grid connection and usage for battery storage in Germany, this white paper is for you.

What you find in this workshop:

  • BESS and site overview
  • Grid connection process
  • Metering concepts
  • Grid fees, taxes, and levies for BESS operation and with co-location
  • Exemption from charges

Disclaimer: The presentation informs about (co-location) battery storage with knowledge as of June 2024. The presented information is based on the latest information available. It does not replace legal advice, nor does it claim to be complete. Neither E-Bridge nor enspired are liable for possible mistakes.

Please note: The German regulator is currently drafting a decision on the distinction between funded power and so-called grey power from the grid for co-located storage sites. The proposal can be found here, and formal entrance into law is expected in June 2026 at the latest. The changes will impact the commercial optimization of co-located assets.
